SOLD Lounge Chair “LC2” by Le Corbusier (Set of 2)
for Cassina, Italy 1978
The famous “LC2” chair model consists of four red leather cushions, free of connections, held within a chrome-plated or coloured steel-tube cage making up the primary support of the object. The geometric structural pattern is modulated after the golden section, the resulting scansion reminding us of the play of empty and full spaces to be found in Le Corbusier’s earliest style.
In 1922, Le Corbusier began working in the new rue de Sèvres, Paris, atelier together with his cousin Pierre Jeanneret. In October 1927, the pair decided to collaborate with Charlotte Perriand, a then young architect who had already begun to establish a reputation on the architectural scene of the time. The teamwork by Le Corbusier, Jeanneret and Perriand lasted through to 1937. Their collaboration was highly significant, both in terms of the cultural weight of their achievements and their professional successes. It was together with Charlotte Perriand that Le Corbusier and Jeanneret started the innovative project for “l’équipement d’intérieur de l’habitation”. As a result, the project’s designs were of great intellectual value and considerable commercial success.
