SOLD Leather Lounge Chair Paulistana with Ottoman by Jorge Zalszupin

Brazil 1960s.

Iconic Lounge Chair and Ottoman Paulistana designed by the famous brazilian designer Jorge Zalszupin in the 60s and produced by L’Atelier Moveis (original label at the bottom). This comfortable seating set impresses with its elegance and the selected materials. The frame of the chair and as well as from the additional Ottoman is made of Jacaranda plywood which is also known as Palisander in Europe. The upholstery is made from soft caramel coloured leather. Four wooden buttons ensure that the cushion pad does not slip. The armrests, also made of leather, are attached to the wooden frame with solid brass screws, which is a nice detail. A chrome plated metal base gives the chair the stability needed for its size.
The size of the ottoman is 72 cm W x 52 cm D x 26 cm H.

Jorge Zalszupin (1922-2020) was an architect and designer noted for modern design. He was born in Warsaw, Poland. At the age of 18 he moved to Bucharest to scape Nazi occupation, graduating from Romania’s top architecture program in 1944. After a few years working as an architect in France, Jorge Zalszupin emigrated to Brazil in 1949, to start his career for modern design. He was deeply inspired by the work of Oscar Niemeyer and therefore his designs were marked by graceful lines, strong use of local woods and a combination of impeccable woodworking and classical detailing.
