Artemide Boalum Table Lamp by Livio Castiglioni and Gianfranco Frattini
Italy, 1970s
This unique table lamp designed by Livio Castiglioni and Gianfranco Frattini for the label Artemide in the 70s immediately became part of the history of Italian and world design. The Boalum table or floor lamp is made of white plastic, with resin and synthetic end pieces. Thanks to its flexibility, that makes it unique in the form, it can be placed on the ground or on a table.
The Boalum lamp was produced from 1970 to 1983 and slightliy modified in 1999. This piece is due to its materials and the structure from a recent production. Domus – the leading Italian Design Magazine – defined the Boalum lamp a snake of endless light. The Boalum lamp is part of numerous collections of design museums, for example the Museum of Modern Art in Philadelphia or the Museum of Italian Design in Milan.
