SOLD Bookcases „Mariano“ by A. & G. Castiglioni (Set of 2)
Italy 1961
A very rare set of 2 bookcases „Mariano“ by the famous Italian designer brothers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni produced in 1961 in Italy. The bookcases are made of walnut veneer. Both shelves have a glass top. One of the beautiful thing about them is the special shape of the edges on their surface. These are filled with a darker wood type, slightly rounded. In addition, the slightly higher feet give the bookcases a very light, airy look. The shelves inside the cases can be arranged differently if necessary. The 2 bookcases have different dimensions regarding the depth – one case has a depth of 27 cm and the other one 40 cm. This is Italian design at its best!
Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni belong to the most famous Italian Designer of the Mid-Century Modern era. Both Achille and Pier Giacomo were keenly interested in experimenting with new materials and techniques for industrial production. Their works are displayed in the most important collections, in the museums from the Moma in New York to the Triennale Design Museum in Milan.
