Coffee Table by Maison Charles “Flying Horses of Gansu”
A very elegant coffee table with 4 bronze Chinese „flying horses of Gansu“ in the style of Hollywood Regency.
The flying horse of Gansu, is a Chinese bronze sculpture from circa the 2nd century CE. Discovered in 1969 in the province of Gansu, it is a remarkable example of three-dimensional form and of animal portraiture. Each horse rests without pressure on a flying swallow, perfectly balanced. The horses’ heads support the large and thick glass table top measuring 120 x 120 cm. The tails of the horses support a smaller glass table top measuring 60 x60 cm. The corners are connected by square brass pipes. The table feet themselves are square, black lacquered and with a surface of brass.
All in all a unique piece with an interesting history!
