SOLD Dining Table by Anna Castelli and Ignazio Gardella
Italy 1960s
Originally designed in 1964 by Anna Castelli Ferrieri and Ignazio Gardelli for a palace in Venice, the dining table model 4997 represents a mix between traditional Italian design combined with modern approaches and affordable materials: polyester resin and glass fibres. It was the first dining table Anna Castelli Ferrieri designed for the famous Italian furniture company Kartell, which she founded together with her husband Giulio Castelli, a chemical engineer. By founding Kartell, Anna and Giulio forever changed how a popular material as plastic is evaluated and employed.
As one of only three women studying architecture at the Milan Polytechnic Institute in the 1940s and later becoming Kartell’s art director between 1976 and 1987, Anna Castelli Ferrieri is part of a narrative that focuses on the development of modern plastics for the improvement of lives and of product design itself.
Please note that the table has some small chipped spots and discolourations due to its age and use. If requested we can offer restoration which could be done by our craftsman or, of course, also could be organised locally.
